A review of Costello Technology College by Year 7 pupil written on Sunday 31st of October 2010
As a year 7 pupil at Costello I have experienced everything up close and personal, meaning it is easy for me to do this review, and that the review will be from a real person’s perspective.
One of the main worries of a child moving to Costello (or any secondary school for that matter) is about getting lost. It can be a very daunting experience; however it is only for the first couple of days that you experience trouble finding your way around, because after a few days you will have made new friends and be able to walk around with them, two heads is always better than one. Also for most schools they have a period of time when it is only the year 7 pupils at the school, at Costello you have the first few periods until the rest of the school come.
Many other worries are surrounding the year 11 students, which, I have to admit were what a couple of my worries were about. But after about a week, the rest of the school just leave you alone and ignore you completely. It's only for the first couple of hours really that they even notice you, and all they do is point at you and call you either midgets or cute.
If you're going to be getting to school by bus it can be very confusing and worrying, just some of the worries being...
1)Will I miss the bus?
2)Will I get the right bus?
3)Where do I sit?
4)Will they throw food?
There are quite a few buses you can catch depending on where you live, because I live in Chineham I get the school service 656 bus, however it is possible for me to get the town bus and then just walk up eastrop hill. Before you’re first day check the bus timetable, and make sure you are at the bus stop with at least 5 minutes to spare, also make sure if your bus has numbers on you know which bus to get. Usually on the Costello bus year 7 students sit at the front. (Downstairs, if you have a double-decker) Unfortunately, my experience with food fights on the bus is not a pleasant one, as they constantly throw food, meaning now I catch the town bus instead, however it should not put you off Costello because that is the only school bus that has food thrown on and if you do live in Chineham then you can get the town bus as I do instead.
I hope my review has helped you to decide on a secondary school, or at least made it slightly easier, and has given you an insight into Costello and starting a new school. .
